About Shrimp and Grits Kids
What is Shrimp and Grits Kids? Shrimp and Grits Kids is a line of high quality, hand smocked
children’s clothing whose products are actually affordable!
Why the name “Shrimp and Grits Kids”?
Well it is different! The Shrimp
are actually the sweet southern little boys and the Grits are the Girls Raised
In The South who adorn the sweet smocked styles.
What makes Shrimp and Grits Kids
Unique? Designer Megan Hewitt uses her surroundings,
Coastal South Carolina, as inspiration for her designs. With designs like Rockville Red Drums and
Edisto Alligators, Shrimp and Grits Kids’ designs are anything but ordinary.
Where are Shrimp and Grits Kids products
sold? Shrimp and Grits Kids products are sold on
the website, www.shrimpandgritskids.com.
They are also sold via trunk show all over the US- predominantly in the
South (smocked country).
The Origins of Shrimp and Grits Kids
Founder
Megan Hewitt’s Story: I had my first
child in the spring of 2005 and quickly learned about smocked clothing. I was dying to dress my little one in this
sweet southern style, but doing so was financially impossible! I started looking for an alternative: “I’ll learn to smock!” I thought.
I took one class, realized it would take me a year to make one dress and
moved on. Always the crafty one, before
becoming a stay at home mommy, I was an Elementary Art teacher, I started
making my daughter dresses. This was fun
but very time consuming, and I ended up spending as much on the patterns and
cute material as I would have spent on a boutique dress. I realized moms need an alternative to high
priced, adorable, hand smocked boutique clothing, so Shrimp and Grit Kids was
born!
I searched
far and wide for a manufacturer that could deliver a high quality product and
found a great match! Without the middle
man, I can offer moms the same quality and cute factor as the boutiques at a
fraction of the cost. Shrimp and Grits
Kids started selling online in April of 2007 and immediately sought a larger
market and began hosting trunk shows all over the South. We have grown now to over 120 shows per
season, selling in 10 states.

Who’s Who at Shrimp and Grits Kids
Megan
Hewitt: Founder and Owner
Megan was
born in the upstate and moved to Charleston, South Carolina when she was
10. She spent the rest of her childhood
on Sullivan’s Island and fell in love with coastal South Carolina. She attended Bishop England high school and
went on to study Art at the University of South Carolina. After graduation she taught Art in the public
school system.
She married
her high school sweet heart, Pitts Hewitt, in 1999, and had a daughter, Ella,
in 2005. After the birth of her daughter
she quit her teaching job and founded Shrimp and Grits Kids. When she is not working, Megan enjoys playing
with her daughters, painting, jewelry making and spending time at the beach. Megan and Pitts had their second little girl, Lyla Gray on July 31, 2008- another adorable Shrimp and Grits Kids model!
