Let’s meet a girl who turned her childhood love of mixing and matching Paper Doll wardrobes into her real-life passion!

Meet Octavia! Born in Maesot, Thailand and raised in Irmo, South Carolina, this fashion designer graduated from the Art Institute of Charleston in 2018 and we were lucky enough to recruit her into our little world of children’s clothing design!

Paper Dolls by Octavia Htoo, SGK Designer Assistant

Paper Dolls were my favorite thing to play with when I was little. My Mom used to make my siblings and me clothes while growing up. I am the youngest in the family so my mom kept me very close to her when she sewed and I guess you can say that's when my love for fashion began.

My Mom would teach me to thread the needle and help her cut the thread when she was done sewing. She had an old, vintage sewing machine so she didn’t let me use the machine. It was also bigger than me so she taught me how to sew-by-hand instead.

Since I couldn’t practice my sewing skills on the machine, I started making paper dolls and sewing the interchangeable outfits by hand. After lots of practice, I gained design and sewing skills that developed into a love and talent for fashion design.
