How to Destress from Christmas Chaos

Christmas time can be stressful. Even though spending time around family (especially ones that live far away) can be fun, there's a certain level of stress that comes with hosting and entertaining out-of-town visitors. So this year, before New Years, take some time to destress and relax in order to prepare for the upcoming year ahead. Here's how to destress from Christmas chaos.

There are lots of ways to destress after a chaotic holiday season, but these quick and simple tips will help you drain the stress away and enjoy the last few moments of 2015 with your loved ones (without wanting to pull all of your hair out).

Drink Lots of Water

Staying hydrated isn't just important for being healthy, it's also important for reducing stress. Being dehydrated can cause you to feel tired, sluggish, and give you headaches. All of those things can contribute to additional stress. Make sure you drink 8 glasses of water a day, and if you're feeling particularly stressed, sit down and have a glass of water and take a few deep breaths.

Go for a Walk

Taking a walking break is great - and really any type of light or moderate exercise can go a long way in keeping the stress at bay. Try to take 30 minutes each day to go for a brisk walk around your neighborhood. Or, every hour, take a quick 5-10 minute stroll around your backyard. Get outdoors and into the sun for a quick pick me up and to relieve stress and tension.

Re-Evaluate your To-Do List

We all have to-do lists that seem like they're a mile long. The next time you're looking at a long list of chores and tasks, really scrutinize the list and figure out if everything on your to-do is actually necessary. A lot of times we pile on things that could wait until later or be crossed off our to-do list entirely. If you can cross off a few things that aren't necessary, it can eliminate stress and anxiety around having too many things to do.
